LEADER'S MESSAGE

Hi, Kosmos Friends!

October is a time to enjoy the changing foliage and take part in the Country Mercantile Harvest Festival, in Pasco, through October. The pumpkin patch there is wonderful! You can take a wagon ride out to the fields and see all the different sizes and colors of pumpkins and pick what you like off the vines. It's also fun to walk through the corn maze. And there is much more.

I personally enjoy October for pumpkin chai tea, pumpkin Blizzards®, and pumpkin pies. It's a good time for picking and making caramel apples, too.

Kosmos also has some fun events this month: our annual Fall Frolic with its traditional Chili Feed, Bingo Party, Game Day, and Movie Matinee, plus three dinners, one lunch, and one breakfast. Attending these events and good eating places is a great way to meet up with other Kosmos members and make some new friends.

6 S. Cascade Street
Kennewick
Lunch: 12:00 Noon
Meeting: 1:00 PM

COME ENJOY OUR TRADITIONAL FALL FROLIC CHILI FEED

Saturday, October 10
Lawrence Scott Park

6020 W. Quinault Avenue
Kennewick
12:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Chili

It's time for one last outdoor gathering before the weather gets too cool. We'll have it under the covered large pavilion at Lawrence Scott Park. There are plenty of picnic tables and benches available, so you don't have to bring your own chairs unless you want to sit out on the adjacent grassy areas.

Three tasty chilis will be served up, prepared by Board Members Sheryl M., Marsha H., and Anna Mae S. Electric outlets are available to keep the chilis and any other hot dishes nice and warm!

Hot dogs and buns with toppings (ketchup, relish, mustard) will also be provided by the Club for those who either don't want chili or those who would like a chili dog!

We ask you to please bring suitable go-withs, such as shredded cheese, sour cream, diced onions, cornbread, Fritos® or tortilla chips, or contribute a salad or dessert. (Please have your desserts pre-cut!) Of course, bring your own beverages of choice, keeping in mind that this is a City park—alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

As usual, the Club provides plates, bowls, and tableware, as well as all the serving utensils (ladles, spoons, tongs, pie and cake servers, etc.) that are needed.

Please remember to bring and wear your name tag so everyone will know who you are. Guests are welcome to come and bring a dish as well. They will be charged a $5.00 fee, or they can join Kosmos that day in lieu of the fee.

Directions: From Columbia Center Blvd., turn onto Canal Drive. Then turn right on North Kellogg Street (a McDonald's is on that corner). The entry to the park's big parking lot is just before you reach Quinault Ave. The pavilion is next to the pickleball courts.

GAME DAY FEATURES A FUN AFTERNOON OF GAMES

Saturday, October 17

Games, a variety.

Claudia T. is hosting Game Day at her home in Pasco. Please bring finger food or a dessert to share, and your own beverage.

As usual, a wide variety of card and board games will be available, or you can bring your favorite game to enjoy with others. Recently, Game Day attendees have enjoyed Rummikub, Mahjong, and Dominoes, as well as Hand and Foot.

If you plan to attend Game Day, please call or text Claudia so she knows you plan to join in on the fun!

You will purchase bingo cards for 5 cents each. The money goes into a pot for the winners. So, bring a snack and a dollar's worth of pennies and nickels. Bottled water will be available, but you can also bring your own non-alcoholic beverage.

We meet at the Richland Library in either Room A or B, which are just to your right when you enter the building. Hostess Sue R. will be there early so you will see her at the door.

If you plan to attend the Bingo Party, please call Sue and let her know!

Directions: The Richland Library is located at the corner of Northgate Drive and Swift Blvd., in Richland, kitty-corner from Kadlec Hospital.

October's Party

— By George Cooper

October gave a party,
The leaves by hundreds came—
The Chestnuts, Oaks and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple
In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
New fallen from the sky.

Then, in the rustic hollow,
At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown,
And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended
In jolly "hands around".

If you're possibly interested in filling our opening for Activities Leader, please contact any of the Leaders on the Kosmos Board. You don't have to do the job alone—you can enlist as many Kosmos members as you want to help serve on an Activities Committee! Give this some consideration if you'd like to contribute to our Club in this way!

Note: E-mail and computer skills are required.
